Robust roadmap for Swachh Bharat Campaign

Doordarshan’s coverage for Gandhi Jayanti kick-started on September 29 with the Mahatma Gandhi International Sanitation Convention (MGISC), a 4-day event that brought together Sanitation Ministers and sector specialists from around the world. Organized by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India, the Convention’s main objectives were to share sanitation success stories and lessons from the participating countries.
The different components of the Convention including the field visit, plenary sessions and technical sessions were prolifically covered by Doordarshan. The Gandhi Trail which includes field visit of the dignitaries to Dandi Kutir, Gandhinagar and Sabarmati Ashram at Ahmedabad have been given exhaustive coverage by Doordarshan.
The exhaustive programs on the platter will culminate on October 2, 2018, with the launch of the Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth year celebrations in India. Doordarshan will endeavor to give a large publicity to the year long programs lined up for this.

Cleanliness Campaign
Doordarshan has played a pivotal role in bringing about public awareness about the Swachh Bharat Mission through its various programs. This is mirrored by the fact that on average at least 35-40 free advertisements are aired daily on a plethora of subjects which are directly or indirectly linked with a message for cleanliness.
The 30-minute episode on Swachh Bharat, aired on Doordarshan thrice a week in collaboration with the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has helped percolate the success stories of the campaign from across the country.
The Government of India launched the Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) on October 2, 2014, with an aim to build a Clean and Open Defecation Free (ODF) India by October 2, 2019, as a befitting tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary.
